Jeroen Smet, Product Manager

Ing Jan De Bièvre , Application ingenier, Arkance Systems.

Limits for freeze-thaw resistance in the presence of de-icing salts of road concrete: first results of the GELAVIA project
Silvie Smets, Chercheur – Conseiller Technologique Routes en béton - Pavages, CRR-OCW

The durability of a concrete road is to a large extent dependent on the resistance of the concrete composition against freezing and thawing cycles in the presence of de-icing salts. The test procedure used until now in Belgium to evaluate the resistance of concrete against de-icing salts is based on the international draft standard ISO/DIS 4846-2. For this test method, long term experience and well established scaling limits as a function of traffic load exist. Since the publication of CEN/TS 12390-9 however, the so called “Slab-test” is becoming the reference method in different standard specifications.

In the national Belgian pre-normative research project GELAVIA, the aim is to define relevant performance classes for freeze-thaw resistance with deicing salts following the Slab-test and incorporating scaling limits for representative road concrete compositions. In this paper an overview is given of the pre-normative research GELAVIA (BRRC, 2016) conducted on Belgian level by BRRC, BBRI and CRIC-OCCN.

18:00AALBORG WHITEAALBORG EXTREME – next generation HPC and UHPC technologies based on AALBORG WHITE
Carmen Maria Batista Ruiz

History of Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC), from its creation at the Research and Development Center of Aalborg Portland, back in the 70s, to its later developments at the present time. Also, it will describe the main mechanical and durability properties that give the material its “high performance” in comparison with traditional concrete, including the importance of the use of white cement into the formulations for obtaining a high quality UHPC. Finally, it will introduce Cementir’s latest development in HPC materials: Aalborg Extreme Light120, which is part of a new generation of HPC using Aalborg Portland’s patented technology.
