WORKSHOP I

Quality, research and innovation

FUTURECEMTM a sustainable technology for cement, concrete and innovative solutions

Stefano Zampaletta, Corporate Product Development Senior Specialist, Sales, Marketing & Commercial Development

Cementir Group, with its “Building a sustainable future”, regards sustainable growth as both a responsibility and a requirement for continuing to operate in the cement industry. Cementir Group’s business model strikes the balance between the creation of economic value, the protection and conservation of the environment and a sense of responsibility towards people and communities. Cementir Group has based this journey toward sustainability on four pillars: usage of alternative fuels; wind energy production; energy recycling and green cement innovation.

Regarding green innovation, Cementir has developed FUTURECEMTM as sustainable solution for cement and concrete technology by an extensive research and case histories of applications in Denmark.
FUTURECEM represents a patented technology which enables production of durable concrete with reduced clinker content (greener) and exploiting synergies of limestone and calcined clay, two largely available materials on earth (sustainable).

15:00 AALBORG WHITE

Aalborg In White Solution®: Innovations based on White Cement

Ing. Tom Ryckeboer, Technical Sales Manager Benelux and France, Aalborg Portland Belgium NV

Since many years, Aalborg Portland is the global reference as a manufacturer of White Cement. The global brand AALBORG WHITE® is applied in products and projects all over the world into i.e. High-End precast, Dry-mix mortars and Readymix concrete.
3 years ago Aalborg Portland’s parent company Cementir Holding started focussing on high-value adding and technologically advanced White Cement based products by its Innovation engine “Aalborg InWhite Solution®”.
The first results have been the launch of different pre-mix products to take the application of white cement on a higher level. The range of possibilities with white cement are enlarged to give more freedom of concept to architects:

AALBORG EXTREME®: Ultra-High Performance Concrete Premix for structural applications: structural building elements, balconnies, bridges, …
AALBORG EXCEL®: Ultra-High Performance Concrete Premix for decorative applications: facade cladding, urban furniture, …

Ultrahogesterktebeton (UHSB)

Peter Minne, Hoofdlector, KULeuven

WORKSHOP I

Secondary Raw Materials for Concrete Precast Products

The construction sector is the most resource intensive industrial sector in the EU. Although there is potential for the use of recycled materials from construction and demolition wastes (CDW), this
is far from mainstream in Europe. For the time being, the sector uses only 4% of CDW, although CDW represents the largest waste stream in the EU, accounting for 1/3 of the overall European waste.

SeRaMCo aims to upcycle construction and demolition wastes (CDW) by developing concrete precast products and cement from recycled aggregates comparable to conventional products in terms of price and quality.
SeRaMCO partners are working for:
Advancing technology for innovative treatment of CDWs and cement production;
Developing and testing experimental proofs of concept;
Validating and promoting precast concrete prototypes in public urban facilities;
Fostering market development by ensuring the uptake of project results by the entire supply chain in NWE.
