Workshop of the Belgian fib member group - 23 January 2020 – Ghent

Workshop of the Belgian fib member group on ongoing pre-normative fib activities and the development of fib Model Code 2020

The fib (Fédération internationale du béton) is a not-for-profit association formed by 42 national member groups and approximately 1000 corporate and individual members.  The mission of the international concrete association is to develop at an international level the study of scientific and practical matters capable of advancing the technical, economic, aesthetic and environmental performance of concrete construction.

The fib Model Codes form milestone publications for presenting new developments and ideas with regard to concrete structures, and have since long served as a basis for code developments in relation to concrete structures. Currently, fib is in full preparation to establish a new version of this milestone publication, namely fib Model Code 2020 (MC2020). The new edition will act as a single merged general structural code for both new and existing structures. In this aspect, the publication will go far beyond the point reached by fib MC2010, current ISO standards, and the current Eurocode activities.

As currently new draft proposals are becoming available, it was found a suitable timing to organize a Belgian event to provide an overview of the new developments in the fib pre-normative activities and the preparations of MC2020, focusing besides general aspects, also in particular to contributions by active Belgian fib members which are strongly involved in recent and ongoing developments.

The event provides an excellent opportunity to get up to date with state-of-the-art design aspects for structural concrete, as well as to gain insight into the new version of the fib Model Code 2020. Furthermore, the event will provide a unique networking opportunity to interact with main contributors to the developments of the international concrete association and to interact and discuss about the ongoing developments.
